Hey Hyram Yarbro! How Has COVID-19 Impacted Skin Care?
We asked Hyram his thoughts on how COVID-19 has impacted the skincare industry. His response highlighted the fact that millions of people are locked down, worried about disease, staying home, and finding new interests.
Their priorities are shifting from looking ‘fabulous’ towards more self-care practices and preventative health measures. So many people are at home where they don’t need to look their best and are allowed to let their guard down. This has prompted so many people to start moving away from makeup and dedicated more effort toward skincare. They are beginning to understand and appreciate the value of:
- Hydration
- Moisturizing
- More time to research products
In addition to the above points, Hyram notes that people can’t walk into stores right now and try on shades of makeup. Skincare is progressive; it is an investment that rewards people who put forth a dedicated effort. Hyram has always approached skincare as fun and experimental, as opposed to a chore or necessity.
Hey Hyram Yarbro! How Has COVID-19 Impacted Sampling?
Bottom line: people can’t sample products during the lockdown. This is the driving factor behind the desire for affordable skincare as well. Skincare can get expensive very quickly, but for the average consumer, big price tags cause serious hesitation in the purchasing process.
On the other hand, affordable skincare products are selling very well. People are much more willing to take a risk on a $15 moisturizer for obvious reasons.
Content creators like Hyram have made it possible for people to get valuable information on products they are curious about, without taking the financial risk of buying it. People trust content creators to do the sampling for them and provide an honest review that informs their purchasing decision. Leading drugstore skincare brand CeraVe, for instance, went viral after Hyram promoted their products on his channel. This is due in large part to his commitment to helping his followers by considering their needs, their skin types, and budgets.
Sampling is a key element of the purchasing process for skincare products. Consumers should not blindly run around buying products without doing their homework: when sampling isn’t an option, they should read reviews. Anything to help you better understand what you are about to buy!
